The Bastid folder was presented at Blade 2006 This model sports a 4" deep belly recurve blade. The model is inspired by a sketch I had laying around for a Jyen bali.....I really liked the bladeshape but was not "ready" to finish the bali design....the folder design came out pretty damn well in my opinion.
This model has alot of details that I really like and I think it one of my best designs...! I have maximum bladelenght to handle ratio...look at that tip in the handle..!! Also see the steel in the guard area....I like this ALOT.....the clip on the timascus model HAD to be made of timascus so I opted for a Amok style clip and it worked out nicely!!
This model presented alot of firsts for me.....on one of the prototypes I used timascus for the first time. Love this stuff...! I chose to beadblast the timascus before heatcoloring it leaving it a more mate look and not so "bling bling"....which is not really my style...the mate look however is awsome..!! On one of the other prototypes was made with solid G10 on the left side and a single titanium frameside for the lockside. The backspacer looks integral but is fittet and then glued in place. I considered milling out the backspacer and handle from a solid piece of G10 but really coulndt see the point since the joint is not stressed in any way what some ever and would make the job
A). easyer and B). cleaner. I did this mainly so compare the strenght of a framelock with and without a titanium left side. There is quit a difference in weight allthough I didnt compare it directly it feels very light. I cannot detect any difference in strenght either that is gonna effect the folder. Ofcourse the titanium would be stronger but does it matter in a tool your holding in your hand?..I doubt it...!
